Let’s talk about the relationship between planned events and the COVID pandemic…
I’m ready to break up and kiss COVID goodbye. How did you feel when you looked at your calendar and had to readjust… everything? I don’t think anything could have prepared us for the changes we would face in our personal or professional lives. Yes, things pop up during the planning process or the day of, but this was a different beast.
In all honesty, who knew what to expect? As event planners, we are supposed to have a plan. Always. We problem-solve. We have alternatives. How do you navigate when the world is in a pandemic? In addition to the logistical problems, add mental health and personal safety.
The planning process looked different. Were our events SAFE? Could they still happen? Our clients had to make decisions they didn’t want to make, sacrificing things they wanted. It was heartbreaking to watch my clients and vendor friends go through this. It hurts that this is a new reality, but things don’t stop. We adjust; we keep pushing.
After numerous zoom calls and brainstorming, we restructured our events. And you know what? Things tend to always work out. Another thing I noticed was that people become more focused on being with one another vs. the event itself. There was so much grace and adaptability. And such a blessing to experience.
Amid COVID event season, I was working on re-branding my business and shifting the focus to content creation and strategy. We were going through all of the changes, y’all!
In the future, we as creatives will know what to expect. We will have alternatives in case of a COVID outbreak. We have a baseline of what to do as changes occur. We got this.
I want to scream thank you to my clients, loved ones, and vendor friends for giving me grace during this weird time in our lives. I couldn’t have done it without you all.
